Yes - the process takes more time - but you get a set of wheels you can trust were built to Velocity's demanding standards.

Made of the highest quality, black anodized Velocity Aeroheat rims or Cliffhanger Rims with machined sidewalls for effective braking in all conditions.

A23 rims are the lightest option and include a tubeless web.
This allows the use of tubeless type tires as well as traditional tires, but requires that a thin, tubeless type rim strip be used and also makes a very tight rim/tire interface.

If you have issues mounting and unmounting tires, the Aeroheat or Cliff Hanger are better options.

Aeroheat rims are the best all around option for 1.5" range tires to be run at pressures below 85 psi.
Cliff Hanger rims are the best option for 1.5" range tires to be run at higher pressures or for wider tires at moderate pressures.

Each wheel is hand laced, with black Velocity hubs, black stainless 14 gauge spokes and quick release skewers.
The rear wheel can be Shimano 8, 9, 10 or 11 speed compatible, and has either 130mm or 135mm rear spacing.
Presta valve compatible rims.

DT Competition double butted spokes and DT brass nipples
The rear wheel has half of the spokes in a 'two cross' lacing pattern, and half of the spokes in a 'radial' lacing pattern.
Velocity builds it that way to preserve torsional strength, add lateral strength and reduce weight.

1. DT Competition 14/15 gauge spokes save 30 grams per wheel and will outlast a standard 14 gauge spoke.
2. Alloy nipples save 20 grams per wheel.

VeloPlugs - Say goodbye to rim strips - NOT recommended for A23 Rims
Incredible blowout strength and takes well over 400psi.
Tires start to fail long before the Veloplug.
Tire mounting is easier with the Veloplug.
Rim strips take up a lot of space making tires more difficult to mount.
With the sleek and slippery Veloplug, mounting tires becomes easy.
Spoke replacement is simplified as there is no need to remove a sticky strip.
Just pop out the Veloplug over the offending spoke and pop it back in when repairs are complete.
They can be used over and over.
